Novella

Estado: vacío

Unpublished · Spanish-language original

After their mother’s death, a woman and her brother clear out the family flat. Over twelve days, the practical work of deciding what to keep and what to give away becomes a way of living through grief.

Keys, clothes and everyday possessions force the siblings to make decisions no checklist can settle. As the flat is emptied, the narrator encounters a life that cannot be reduced to her mother’s role within the family.

Intimate and attentive to the gestures of care, Estado: vacío explores exhaustion and the differences between people who share a loss. Closing a home is not the same as bringing its relationships to an end.

Editorial focus

For contemporary literary fiction lists and readers drawn to grief, care and family relationships. Its intimacy emerges through ordinary objects and everyday decisions.
