Literary novel
El resto del absoluto
Unpublished · Spanish-language original
A young philosophy student enters a relationship with Simona in which desire, commands and writing unsettle what he believes he knows about himself and other people.
Between the library and intimate encounters, the need for recognition stops being an abstract idea and takes on bodily consequences. Neither his experience with Simona nor Marcela’s presence can be contained by the account through which the narrator tries to take possession of what has happened.
El resto del absoluto brings erotic exploration into contact with philosophical reflection. Questions of dependence, consent and perception arise from the conflict between people and the accounts written about them.
Editorial focus
For literary fiction lists engaging with desire, subjectivity and the novel of ideas. The tension between experience and its telling sustains an intimate exploration of power.
